Isn't it strange? Most of us do get excited by the thought of speaking another language fluently but.... surprise surprise, we never ever do it. Yes.... we can imagine it would be fun, we can see the benefits of it, sometimes we even know that it is a necessity, we buy cd's, go to school but then still at the end..... NADA! :(
Did it ever come to your mind that often we talk about MASTERING a new language? Well.. this may already explain the root of most of your problems.....
It is as if you have to catch it, to tame it and to control it. And that is often not that easy at all... more often we end up fighting with it! As soon as we try to master Dutch or Spanish, it seems to fight back as a fierce lion. We want to lock it up in our brains . But somehow it quickly escapes. No wonder that often we associate learning a new language with a long and inevitable struggle. Not something fun to do and therefore we simply give up.
The problem is that consciously or subconsiously we translate an inspiring goal with thoughts of fighting and sometimes - if we really hate learning it - even with war. As a logical consequence it drains all our energy, and we feel empty at the end... The language is just stronger than us, at least that is what you could think in first instance. Not really a cheerful idea right?
With this blog I want to share some new insights. What if you could see a new language as a friend, rather than a servant that needs to be controlled, and what if learning a new language could give access to new powers within you that you could never imagine?
If you like this idea, then stay tuned... I will soon come up with loads of new stuff!
